Hello, Happy Spring

Spring is taking its time to come visit us in the Northwest.  It has snowed in this month of April!  I have begun to do a Spring/Sunshine/Warm weather dance, anything to get weather to be more spring-like.  The dance may be paying off since we are finally going to see some warming.  My tulips are starting to grow and it won't be too long before our flowering trees are in bloom. 

Mother's Day is quickly approaching on May 11, 2008.  I remember always getting a carnation flower from church or businesses and never thought much about it.  I did a little research and found out that Anna Jarvis, daughter of Anna Reeves Jarvis, was the power behind the establishment of Mother's Day. She passed out 500 white carnations in 1907 to each mother at her mother's church, St. Andrew's Methodist Episcopal Church in Grafton, West Virginia. Anna Jarvis dedicated her life to her mother's project to establish a Mother's day to honor mothers, living and dead.  She wanted Mother's Day to be a day of sentiment to remember our mothers.

It wasn't until 1914 that the U.S. Congress passed a Joint Resolution, and President Woodrow Wilson signed it, establishing Mother's Day.
